Wrinkles | and what causes them

  • By Trulux Team

Skin aging causes a decrease in the condition of the skin and an increase in the appearance of imperfections, such as wrinkles.

These furrows appear prematurely in stressed areas of the skin and are called expression wrinkles.

Wrinkles are the result of the multiple, daily stresses that our face undergoes. Each frown, and unfortunately, each smile and laugh, contributes to gradually deepening these lines in the skin.

As we get older, the skin loses its ability to fill in the macromolecules. As a result, the skin becomes less dense, and less able to adapt to stress.

In addition to the repeated mechanical effects of our facial expressions, the skin also has to deal with external issues such as pollution, the food we eat, as well as the ultraviolet light from the sun. These external issues lead to skin damage, which aggravates the mechanical stresses caused by our expressions.

Wrinkles can be of different degrees, depending on their location, their number and how deep they are. The most well known being crow’s feet and forehead lines. However there has also been focus on smile lines and wrinkles on the neck.

How to reduce wrinkles

There are many things one can do to prevent, or reduce the number of wrinkles. They include staying out of the sun, eating food that is beneficial to the skin and moisturising regularly.

Ultraviolet luminotherapy was formerly a method used, but is now all but abandoned. However the idea behind it was that certain visible lights can exert the power to activate the synthesis of dermal macromolecules. Some chemical companies have managed to emulate this in an active ingredient.
